A Memorial Offering Upon the death of that great, wise, good, and beloved man, MINISTER AND GUIDE OF THE Congregation “Beth-el-Emeth,” PHILADELPHIA.
ALAS!
Isaac Leeser is gathered. Woe! He's departed and is no more,
Sadness and mourning on Israel fall, for the affliction is sore.
Ah! thus on the Holy Sabbath his spirit ascended on high.
And faint grew our hearts, and midst weeping and wailing, a cry
Came from Heaven and called him, and broke up our circle of joy.

Lo! where is the scribe, who his wisdom can fitly applaud!
Eternal his teachings, in all tongues they are scattered abroad.
Ever abounding in reverence, in wisdom, and piety's praise,
Still on Holy ground walking he left us exalted in grace,
Ever in him was our shield, as still on his strength we relied,
Reverend Isaac Leeser enough for our glory; our guide.

Blest are the righteous. Though dead they still live for the truth,
Be like him, whose loins were girded with strength in his youth.
The grave we can't know, nor see destruction's abyss,
Righteous I pray, in God's will, may my end be like his.
