My Dear Sir
Our mutual friend Solomon handed me your interesting letter, in answer thereto I would respectfully say that the oath taken by attys in this District has been changed since the War, the one alluded to in the M? trial alludes to the oath taken prior to the War. Do you suppose for a moment that I would take such? or that I would rest until repealed? I am informed however that in Maryland the Law still exists, but that is not strange

there; as there are no Israelites there worthy of the name, & hence Legislation has been in accordance to their Effati? character, our indifference as a Race to the Laws framed, & the general public welfare, are great misfortunes, our people only think of Money & gold, more the pity? I am writing that article for the Occident.
