Your favor by Express enclosing the 14 numbers of the Jewish Miscellany is at hand I find the first number so much damaged by wet and the changes in the package excessive that I have induced the Express Co to make amends pay for another copy of Caleb Asher and bring it to me free of charge. Will you therefore please send me by American Express said copy to replace the one damaged—pay for which and for the others please find herewith. Enclosed find $14.25, $10 to pay for my subscription to the Aguilar work $4.25 for the Miscellany

My youngest child—Percy—is very ill with Croupal Diptheria and occasions my dear wife and self great solicitude—this must explain and apologize for this brief note. The reporter of the Record was present and made a stenographic sketch of my speech—hence its appearance—not by any pre-wish of mine in the columns of that paper.
