Dear Sir,
Whilst I thank you for your kind answer of March 6th in referenceto my "Reader" lately published, I beg to say that since then I have met with a heavy loss in having 1,000 volumes at my book-binders destroyed by fire, and not being insured it has placed me in difficulties, which is the only apology I can make for troubling you again.--
Permit me to say, that I have appointed Mr Ch. Landan as my Agent in Philadelphia, and that I have reduced the price of my "Reader" to 75¢ p[er] copy, in order to raise funds to fill up the gap the above mentioned calamity has occasioned. This price will place ^it within the reach of all our co- religionists, and as the book contains 450 pages, is nicely printed & bound, it may really claim to be not only the cheapest, but also the most useful book of its kind ever published in this country, in as much as the Contents thereof applicable to every age and station in life will surely in course of time bear good fruit and prove alike useful, & interesting for all times to come.--

Opinion of the Press, Etc.
We hail the appearance of this book with the greatest pleasure; it not only fills a great necessity, but fills it in a prominent and remarkable manner. The author was very careful in his selections, so that it may be adapted for all classes and creeds. The book is well-bound and printed, and, although filling over 400 pages, the price was put at the low figure of one dollar, and we recommend it to every Jewish household.--Jewish Herald.
Mr. Abarbanel's "English School and Family Reader, for the use of Israel- ites," just received, shows clearly that the author has spent much time and labor over his work, and culled the best from the writings of the most eminent men. The contents of the book ought to be of interest to all classes alike, and valuable lessons in the history and principles of Judaism may be drawn from its pages. The book is printed in clear type, compactly arranged, neatly bound, and sold for the low price of one dollar.--San Francisco Hebrew Observer.
The want of a proper English reader for our youth has now been well supplied by the issue of Mr. Abarbanel's "English School and Family Reader, for the use of Israelites," a book by far superior to all other similar publications, and we feel pleasure in recommending it to every household as the most useful Reader to be put in the hands of our youth, especially as the low price of one dollar places it within the reach of all classes alike.--Boston Hebrew Observer.
The "English School and Family Reader, for the use of Israelites," by Henry Abarbanel (Rogers & Sherwood), contains many interesting extracts from the writings of well-known Hebrew scholars. The translations from the German and the Hebrew are excellent.--New York World.
"English School and Family Reader for the Use of Israelites." Reasons are given—and very excellent ones they are—why this work should be extensively cir-culated among the young of the Jewish faith, and also the idea that prompted its production is excellent, as it fills a void in the requirements of proper books to educate the young of the Jewish race that has long been felt. We know of no work more desirable to place in the hands of the rising generation than this, and have no doubt that, when once before the public, everybody will avail himself of this excellent work. The selections are made with great care, and the efforts of the author deserve to, as they doubtless will, be crowned with success. No more valuable present can be made.--New York Hebrew Ledger.
Mr. H. Abarbanel compiled an "English School and Family Reader, for the use of Israelites" (Rogers & Sherwood, 442 pages, octavo). The book consists of of col-lections in prose and verse, from various authors on Jewish subjects, and contains three divisions. The whole book is a very readable and instructive work, espe-cially for young America, who, would find in it quite an amount of information in an acceptable form. Mr. Abarbanel's "Reader" ought to find a place in every family library. It is instructive, edifying and pleasing.--Cincinnati American Israelite.
The Hebrew of San Francisco has a large account of its usefulness, and the importance of such a publication for our youth.
The Hebrew Gazette of New York brings a whole column in reference to this important work, and strongly recommending it to all parties above all other publi-cations of this kind.
The book is deeply interesting and has many merits: it will be found in most cases a reliable guide on matters pertaining to Jewish history and literature.-- Philadelphia Jewish Record.
This very interesting "Reader" is a useful contribution to our literature, and should be in the hands of all American Israelites who seek to forward the cause of education, and have the welfare of our children at heart. Those of riper judg-ment, too, may at all times find here an excellent compendium of good Jewish matter, all pointing to the truth and perpetuity of Judaism. In short, the book contains much useful and important information.--New York Hebrew Standard.
In Abarbanel's "Jewish School and Family Reader" a long-felt want has been supplied. A Jewish reading-book, that is to say, a book with selections from con-temporary Jewish writers, and on Jewish literary and historical subjects. Mr. Abarbanel's work shows care, taste, and Jewish zeal in its compilation. The topics are chosen from the best known Jewish writers of Europe, while occasional extracts are given from American Jewish sermons and the Jewish Press. The book can be heartily recommended, and merits a large scale. It is to be regretted that it was not issued under the auspices of our Union of Congregations.—JewishMessenger, N.Y.

The Chicago Occident speaks in the highest terms of this publication.
The London Jewish Chronicle and Jewish World give an excellent account of its importance and usefulness.
This book will serve a good purpose if it succeeds in awakening an interest in Jewish subjects. The book will prove useful to both Jews and Christians, as therein will be found much information that will serve to strengthen the love of the former for his religion, and to remove many of the prejudices of the latter.
We have no doubt that the readers of this volume will be tempted to persue their studies farther, and in so doing will accomplish the aim desired by the Com-piler.--N.Y. Jewish Advocate.
