My dear Mr. Morais:
I enclose you Rubenstein's latest. He has taken the idea of a Cincinnati edition of the [Hebrew] in earnest, this quibble about [Hebrew] is laughable. I did not publish it, so I replied to him by note, because it dealt with the editor, rather than the accuracy of the translation.
I feel very much inclined to print parallel passages of the 2 translations-- the length of yours is 12 columns & his 3. Only I don't want to engage in a lengthy
controversy—of no interest to our readers. I know Wise is behind the whole affair: You may recollect Raphall's answer to W's views on the same subject.
I have not seen this week's Record, possibly we have handled him there. He has turned his Talmud training to good account. America will be a Garden of Eden in five years!!

The Resurrection.
"A few weeks ago, there appeared in the ISRAELITE an avowed translation of Mai-monides' "Treatise on the Resurrection of the Dead" from the pen of Mr. Rubenstein, student at the Hebrew Union College, who received his Talmudic training in Europe. In 1859 Rev. S. Morais contributed to trans-lation of the same treatise to the Messenger. On comparison we find Mr. Rubenstein's "rendering," so widely different from Rev. Mr. Morais' as to give exactly Maimon-ides never wrote. Assuredly some explana-tion is needed, or we shall feel tempted to class Mr. r. with Mr. Goldammer, whose "translation" of Luzzatto's Chaldaic Gram-mar was duly commented upon two years ago in our columns. Possibly Mr. Ruben-stein has a Cincinnati edition of the [Hebrew] [Hebrew] and this may account for variations be-tween Morais' version and his perversion."

A CARD.
To the editor of the "Jewish Messenger."
It was with mingled feelings of pleasure and pain that I read an article in the last number of your Messenger concerning me and my translation of Maimonides' Resur-rection. Pleasure to know that you had de-voted time to the reaning of it; pain to think that so wise [?] a man should denounce it as a perversion before examining the original. Have you any authoritative translation upon which you base so valuable [?] a criticism? I would call your attention to "the transla-tor's reply," and an editorial which ap-peared in the ISRAELITE of August 15. I am of the opinion that these articles, although originally not intended for you, fit you exactly, and by examining the references there noted, you may be induced to retract your able [?] remarks upon my translation.
Possibly by giving you credit for that criti-cism I may be doing you injustice, for the Record of the previous week contains sub-stantially the same.
You refer to a Cincinnati edition of [Hebrew] [Hebrew]. I may as well inform you that there is not only no Cincinnati edition, but no such work in existence. Would it not be more useful and beneficial did you devote the time required in classifying me with Rev. Goldammer, to a review of your Hebrew as well as your criticisms. For charity's sake, let me instruct you that the correct name of the work you wish to refer to is

If you can translate the original I will with pleasure loan you one of the oldest and most authentic copies extant.
