Dear sir & colleague,
Kindly allow me to call your attention to a small official matter pending between you and me.
A certain Mr. Pardo of this city has about a year ago nominally joined our Har Sina congregation i. e. has on his application been elected a member but has paid no or almost no dues yet
and is, as I understand some twenty dollars, in arrear. During this time he certainly would if necessary have claimed the rights of a member, as the use of burial ground etc. This he proved in following instance. His sister in law, who lives with him, is about to be married and he has asked me to give [Hebrew] and I had accepted it and therefore delaied my departure from here as I am to leave in order to accept the Ministry of Jacksonville Fla. Pardo wanted the ceremony to be performed
in the synagogue and the President of this congregation consented to that with the condition that he first pay his arrear dues in order that he be a member of good standing. The next thing I heard was, that P. is about to offer you the [Hebrew] to be performed in his house. Of course he has a right to that and may take any minister he pleases although in his house I too would have per,formed the ceremony without asking any questions about congregational matters. But I trust you will neither
strengthen any one in trespassing against the principle [Hebrew] nor cause a colleague to be [Hebrew]
The affair is to come of on August 26.
