Mr Morais,
Honored Rabbi,
I enclose a letter to you in one forwarded to my friend Mrs. H. Hahn.
Hope you will pardon the liberty I take in addressing you, especially as I do it in my own interest.
I am very anxious to obtain, ni[in?] detail, some story or history giving an account of the expulsion of the Jews from Eng. or Germany, or
Italy. I am trying in a very feeble way, but to the best of my ability to write a narrative, the hero of which shall be a jewish boy living at such a time, & enduring the petty persecutions that have always been endured by that race. I would like to found it on fact.
I do not know as I-- shall succeed, for as yet I have found nothing bearing on this point.
I think it may be that Osatishes[?] relative to their expulsion from Eng. can be most readily found--& through I have located the scenes of the first two chapters elsewhere. yet I can readily change it if needful.
Can you help me? I desire something in detail of their life in Eng. at the time or times of their expulsion, their sufferings & causes given[?] for expulsion--&c. &c & also whether the matter not the subject of
discussion in the Eng. Parliament= & if so-- what member or members took sides for or against-- if any prominent members names can be found-- Nothing has ever been published of the kind that I propose to write, & though I am no authoress—yet it may be as I am a warm friend of your people—I may be enabled to do some thing, to say my will[?] in-- their favor. Mrs Emanuel Cohen has been trying to help me-- Shall I hear from you?
