Dear Sir
The Board of Delegates of the N.A.H.C. as p[e]r enclosed circular have asked that Sunday Oct. 4th be designated as a general day for Memorial services throughout the U.S. in memory of Sir Moses Montefiore. As representa-tives of Philada. on the B. of D. we submit the matter to you to be presented to the Jewish Ministers of this City for further consideration. Will you kindly advise us what action they take in the matter[.]

At a meeting held^ last evening at the residence of Dr M. Jastrow, your communication was made the subject of discussion. The Ministers agreed that in as much as our respective Congre-gations—with a single unavoidable exception, have already held memorial services in honor of the lamented Sir Moses Montefiore, it would be inexpedient to have a repetition thereof jointly, at the time stated by the Board of Delegates that you represent. Dear Sir:
At a meeting of the Board, held this day, to take appropriate action upon the death of SIR MOSES MONTEFIORE, the following recommendations were adopted:
1.That during the thirty days following the funeral, special prayers be offered in the Synagogues, Temples, and Charitable Institutions.
2. That arrangements be made for a Memorial Ser-vice in each city, to be held at the same time through-out the United States; and Sunday, October 4th, is suggested as a suitable day.
3. That the benevolent work and institutions dear to SIR MOSES MONTEFIORE, or founded in his name, be accorded renewed sympathy and support.
It becomes my duty to communicate this action and to ask your reply, indicating whether a memorial service will be held on the day suggested.
