My dear Sir
Your kind letter was a surprise and a source of profound satisfaction. I have been considering whether so distinguished an honor as that which the University of Penn--sylvania proposes to bestow on me is at all deserved. I do not assume the virtue of humility when I say, that I have failed to discover any claim to it. Still, I gratefully accept the title to be attached to my name, because I imagine that it is designed as a courteous recognition of clerical services rendered to the best of my abilities, and because the action of your Board may gratify the congregation to whose spiritual wants I have ministered during many years.
God sparing me, I shall be in attendance on the
day which you will designate. You may, if agreeable, allow me a few tickets of admission--no more than six.
Thanking you again for the language in which your note was worded couched, and asking that you will offer convey my sentiments of high regard to your Board of the Trustees of the University, I and I remain Yours very respectfully S. Morais - Identifier
