My Dear Sir
Any day would suit me better than Sunday, but, aside from that consideration, I deem it advisable not to let Mr Miller know that I brought about the settlement of the open negotiation. As I have already mentioned, to you, Miller is doubtless aware of the petition sent to the Baron, of the expectations of the colonists, and I believe that, under with the impression idea that a large sum would be forthcoming, he sold some land, on the very day I was at his place, to men who hoped to receive enough to pay up when would I handed them each a check for two or three hundred Dollars. Let Miller remain under the impression that Mr Gold-man has procured the money. There can be no [?] in [?] him. Now, regarding the land, I wish to say that others, besides Miller, own a portion, and the quantity and the indebted
-ness ought to be ascertained, in order to fully carry out Mr Veneziani's ideas and instruction. The memorial which I endorsed was signed by sixty six persons, if I well remember. Many of them may not be entitled to a grant, but there are many also who in all likelihood deserve to be assisted. Mr Goldman who has taken an interest in the colony heretofore, must know understand all particulars, but as I act in the name of the philanthropic donor, I find it necessary to present things in the light I view them. I shall be glad to meet you and Dr G., and if you let me know where I can meet find you you will be can early on Sunday morning, I will merely be there, G. W. to have a talk. Let us act carefully, so that we may U do the colonists no injustice, but still, carrying out the Baron's intentions, without we do not en-courageing dishonest speculators.
