My dear Sir:
My Leghorn friend begs to acknowledge your kindness in copying Aben Esra's poem. Unfortunately the passage which he missed in his own manuscript, is wanting also in the printed copy of [Hebrew]. Evidently after [Hebrew] a line is missing, for you don't find the rhyme corresponding with [Hebrew]. Possibly the Oxford copy, translated into Latin, may fill up the gap. My friend requests me also to say that Rabbi Israel Costa of Leghorn, was presented by the Alliance Israélite Universelle with a copy of your [Hebrew], but in giving it to the binder, he noticed that the first volume is defective from the 9th page to the 24th [Hebrew]. He wrote to the Alliance, and this applied to your publi-sher but [Hebrew]. Can you conveniently supply me with those pages? If you cannot, will you do me the favor of dropping a line to your publisher, and asking that he will please forward those pages to this address "Rabbino Cavaliere Israele Costa, Via Roma No. 28. Livorno Italia Toscana".
