Balto. Febr 17th
Rev S. Morais
Esteemed friend.
Pardon my seeming neglect in waiting till to-day to attend to a duty I should have seen to before; but my d. wife's indisposition prevented my leaving the house daily before four o'clock & then it is too late for the Post Office.
Enclosed please find money order for $ 6.00, which I take the liberty to forward for the Expenses i[overwritten: e]ncurred by your recent trip to this city, wherever I go, I hear the pro-found satisfaction and unanimous praise your address has created here, I hope and sincerely pray that the response to your able efforts will be in proportion to the sincerity of your eloquence and the approbation of the public. Thus far I received no indication of such, beyond
what Mr Friedenwald told me, that several members of his family will do justice to the cause. I will announce from the pulp[^]it next Sabbath, that I will receive for further transmission any sums or promises to subscription for the fund. I shall write to NY for more circulars if they can be obtained & if I am to go to Washing-ton, I shall f want some for distri-bution there.
If I can be of any service to you, I will only be too glad to lend you myassistance and if your leisure time allows to communicate on the subject, be most grateful for any information[.]
My d. wife th. G. is feeling much better to-day & begs to be kindly remembered.
With best greetings I am
fraternally yours
[?] Schneeberger[?]
P.S. I just had a talk with Dr. Friedenwald who was here on a professional visit—he told me what he and others of his family are ready to contribute & we resolved to organize a local Committee consisting of influential men of the various Congre-gations together with Mr. Mendez Cohen, Dr. F & myself and endeavor to canvass the city to get subscriptions and members for the Seminary—I think the plan a good one and if the same could be done elsewhere, we could easier approach the masses-- - Identifier
