To the Rev Dr Sabato Morais
Reverend Sir!
We again take the liberty to appeal to you in behalf of our Society, to use your best influence with the members of your congregation to increase their donations on Yom Kippur. Owing to the increasing demand upon the resources of this Institution having expended over $50.000.00 partly transferred from our Investments, and having besides overdrawn our Treasury arising mainly from the necessities of the growing tide of Emigrants fleeing from the persecution, coupled with the pressing wants of those who already are, and will continue to be Beneficiaries of the Society; it is therefore the urgent request of the Board
of Government recognizing the increasing demands of our needy and unfortunate Brethern, that the amount donated by the liberal and charitable Members of your Congregation may be larger in proportion, as the demand upon our Resources grow larger. You will permit therefore to beg of you, to make an urgent appeal to the Members of your Congregation in your Sermon on Yom Kippur next, that they may assist this Charity liberally and in accordance with their means to the fullest extent.
