- "The principal result of this veneration for a traditionary revelation was just what might be expected. Recreant to their own principle, they found it necessary to commit their traditions to writing; and to the present day, the Mishna of Rabbi Judah Hakkodesh, together with the commentaries upon it, a work of twelve volumes in folio, is one to which they pay much greater regard and devotion than to the written Scriptures. They corrupted the Jewish religion, just as the Romanists have the Christian; and they annulled the authority of the Old Testament, just as the Romanists have annulled the authority of the New ..."
